The folx in our DBT program, and DBT programs across the country, are working hard to improve self-regulation, behavior stabilization, and to build lives that are fulfilling. At times, the people that love our DBT folx the most can feel helpless, unsure, or perhaps even think they are "messing it all up!". We are so excited to be offer the Friends and Family Workshop series as a way to support people in our clients' closest environments with education and applicable tools. We have developed an 8-week series of lessons, activities, and discussions that will provide a glimpse into DBT theory, skills, and interventions so that loved ones are learning some of the same "language" as the DBT clients. Additionally, the workshop provides tools and resources family members/loved ones can use in instances of difficult or intense dynamics. This workshop series is being offered virtually so that we can offer it to families of DBT clients anywhere nationwide, as we know how valuable it is to find community and education when someone we care about is in treatment!

A brief overview of some of the lessons and discussions:
Theories to understand emotion dysregulation including in interpersonal dynamics and how DBT applies
The When, Why, and How of validation and how self-validation helps, too!
Understanding the principles of behaviorism and how transactions in the environment shape and influence behavior
Tools for managing in crisis, after a crisis, and when someone doesn't want to engage
Identifying, setting, and communicating limits effectively
The "D" in DBT - learning about dialectics and finding a middle path
The role of radical acceptance
